Relief for Commuters: Gurgaon–Pataudi–Rewari Highway Service Lanes to Open This Month

If you’ve been stuck in the notorious traffic snarls of Gurgaon or the Delhi-Jaipur highway, there is finally some light at the end of the tunnel. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has announced that it will partially open the Gurgaon–Pataudi–Rewari Highway by the end of February.

While the entire project isn’t fully ready yet, the opening of the service lanes marks a massive first step in decongesting the region. Here is everything you need to know about this development.

Why the Partial Opening?

While most of the structural work is complete, the main carriageway is still facing a few hurdles. Specifically, there are pending clearances for load-bearing drain works near the Dwarka Expressway and a transmission line that needs to be shifted.

Rather than making commuters wait for the entire project to finish, NHAI officials have decided to open the service roads as an interim arrangement. According to officials, traffic movement is expected to begin within the next 7 to 10 days.

How This Benefits You

The Gurgaon–Pataudi–Rewari corridor is designed to be a game-changer for southern Haryana. Here’s why it matters:

  • Faster Commutes: Once operational, it will provide a much-needed alternative to the heavily congested Delhi-Jaipur Highway.

  • Industrial Connectivity: For those working in or managing logistics in Manesar, Bilaspur, and Dharuhera, this highway will significantly slash travel times for freight and passenger vehicles.

  • Regional Link: It strengthens the connection between Gurgaon and Rajasthan, making interstate travel smoother.

A Long Road to Completion

The journey for this ₹900 crore project hasn’t been without its bumps. Though the foundation stone was laid by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari in July 2020, the project faced several delays:

  1. Late Start: Construction only began in late 2021.

  2. Environmental Hurdles: Work was stalled in 2022 by the National Green Tribunal (NGT) due to concerns over forest clearance and afforestation plans.

  3. The Solution: In April 2024, the Supreme Court allowed work to resume, with the condition that compensatory afforestation be done within the city to replace the green cover lost during construction.

What’s Next?

While the service lanes will provide immediate relief this month, work continues on the main carriageway to ensure the full stretch is open as soon as possible.

For residents of Gurgaon and commuters heading toward Pataudi or Rewari, this month brings the first taste of a much faster, smoother journey. Keep an eye on the road signs—your commute is about to get a whole lot easier!
