Gurgaon: Cabbie forges dead owners’ property docus, sells plot
Gurgaon: The city police’s economic offences wing arrested a man on Thursday for allegedly forging a general power of attorney (GPA) executed by the deceased owners of the plot and alienating it in favour of the accused.
The accused — Hansraj Kumar (52), who worked as a taxi driver — told police that he and his aide, Gaurav Kataria (33) had planned to usurp one of the plots in Sushant Lok owned by Ravindra Kakkad and Santosh Kakkad. This plot came to his knowledge by Kataria. After the pair discovered that owners had died in 2019 and 2020, they employed impersonators to stand in for them and carry out the GPA. Hansraj sold the plot to another couple for Rs 2 crore after the deed was executed.
It was discovered after daughter-in-law of the original owners filed a FIR at Sushant Lok police station in July 2025. She alleged that when she approached the municipal corporation for transfer of the property in her name after the death of her in-laws, she was informed it now belonged to Rahul and Sonia Joshi.
“During further investigation, it was found that he had handed Kataria PoA, issued in Wazirabad. The property was registered on Feb 6, 2025,” the officer added.
The arrest was made by tracking document trails and movements of the accused, he said mentioning that the role of other associates who are part of the fraud is also under investigation.
Hansraj, a resident of Khanna in Ludhiana, was arrested from his hometown and brought to Gurgaon for police remand, police said. Kataria has not been arrested so far “but efforts are being made to nab him”, they said.
The accused has been remanded in police custody for “detailed interrogation, unearthing similar frauds and also recovering the cheated amount”, the officer added.
