Over 2,700 EWS Families Get Homes in Gurgaon under CM housing scheme: A dream of owning a house came true for 2,709 economically weaker section (EWS) families on Monday when they were allotted flats in the city under Chief Minister Housing Scheme. As part of the scheme, clean 200 sq ft flat will be given to each beneficiaries at a maximum cost Rs 1.5 lakh. The units are based in group housing projects licensed by the department of town and country planning (DTCP) that have been developed by private builders, including Emaar, M3M, DLF, Vatika, Ireo, Sobha and Godrej. The allotments at the Gurgaon University campus were made by Haryana Urban Development Authority through an online lucky draw. It was attended by the nodal officer for the district and additional deputy commissioner Sonu Bhatt, other officials including additional director (department of housing for all) Ruchi Singh Bedi. The district administration had established bank help desks at the venue to facilitate loan processing and aid the beneficiaries. The draw included applicants who had deposited Rs 10,000 and found eligible after verification, Bhatt said. “From the social justice perspective, widows, scheduled caste applicants and nomadic tribes were given priority,” he added. Apart from offering housing, it also allows economically weaker people to live with dignity, he said. “With today’s successful draw, we reached an important milestone in delivering stability and security to families,” Bhatt said. A housekeeping worker, Rashmi, stated she had been living in rented places for years. “I own my home, which makes my life much more secure and stable,” she said. Mohammad Wazir, a tailor who lives in Rajiv Nagar, said securing permanent housing was always an issue. With the allocation, he said his “kids will now get an opportunity to live in a better and safe environment.”
